You know that saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words?”
Never does that seem more true than today, as least in the world of visual content marketing.
We saw this most significantly in the fast growth of Pinterest, which was (I think) the first social media site to rely almost solely on images. This continued with the interest and acquisition of Instagram.
As a novice digital photographer, I’m always intrigued by the power of images to evoke feelings.
People see a sunrise, and they feel something. They see a sunset, and they feel something else.
They like photos of cats, and babies, and snarky memes.
But is there anything really crucial to all this image love? Does it have any value in real business?
The statistics say yes.
In this post from MDG Advertising, we find some interesting statistics about visual media and its capacity to drive attention and interest in social media.
For you, as a business owner, here are the key facts you need to know:
1) Content with compelling images gets up to 94% more total views than content without. This means that visually appealing content gets much more attention.
2) When submitting press releases, go multimedia. The press releases which contain more forms of media – photos, videos, downloads- get more total online views than press releases with none or fewer of these items.
3) If you are promoting your local business, use relevant and geographic-assistive images in your online efforts. Consumers are 60% more likely to select local businesses which include images in their online listings. Also, a few well executed images can also help potential customers find your business when they need to.
4) 67% of consumers feel a product image is “very important” when purchasing a product.
In the day and age where attention and engagement are the new money, it’s clear that images can help you tell your story with greater impact.
When you create new content for your blog or any of your social media channels, take the extra step to create a compelling image. It will help your content be seen and shared by more people.
