If you will be hiring someone to work as a part-time or virtual assistant, be sure to create an equitable payment structure. Find a working balance between paying for time v. paying for project. If you pay by the hour, be sure to ask for an accounting of how the time is being spent. If an assistant consistently takes too long to complete a task, consider whether this is a rectifiable situation. Does this person need more guidance? More training? Or would you be better served by working with someone else?
