Everybody I’ve ever worked with can relate at least one horrendous sales experience- you know, the one where you felt unheard, badgered, maybe even harassed? The one where you felt like you were being pushed to make a decision and, in reflex, you decided not to buy? If you are finding it difficult to sell to your customers, you might want to check your sales style. Are you coming across as aggressive or impatient? Are you interrupting your potential customers and assuming you know what they need? Are you surprised at how strong a negative reaction people have when you try to sell them? If you aren’t sure, but think this might describe you, audiotape your next sales call- and listen to the tape. Find places where you could have been a bit more patient, less pushy, and more supportive of the customer’s buying process.
